Artist Quentin Harris

Quentin Harris is a first nations artist & cultural teacher. When asked about her art submission (pictured below) to the Orange Shirt Contest she stated, “This image has two meanings: 1 - the pained past as Indigenous children were stolen and removed from homes leaving loving parents. 2 - My daughter just graduated from grade 12. The student is now leaving the sheltered embrace and now ready to arise into the world and find her own voice and identity. Scary, but we as parents have tears of joy and pride - never ready for this moment but willing to acknowledge it. Raven and Eagle represent the cultural wayfinders and ancestral knowledge keepers that bridge the gap in faith. They are there - aren't they? Will my child remember who he/she is?”
